For almost two years, the citizens of our Sister City in Vietnam have been shut in due to the COVID-19 virus. As a result of strict enforcement of quarantines, the city has been able to keep the incidents of the virus low compared to the levels found in the United States. However, the Delta Variant has caused the level of virus to rise substantially resulting in citizens of our Sister City enduring considerable hardships.
Vietnam has asked for help from many countries to supply them with vaccines.
Join us in supporting this effort to fight this pandemic and to vaccinate the citizens of our Sister City.
Follow the link to the COVID VACCINE page to learn more about the conditions on the ground in Vietnam and how you can help to eradicate this virus.
Thank you,
The Board of Directors
San Francisco-Ho Chi Minh City Sister City Committee
The San Francisco – Ho Chi Minh City Sister City Committee was formed on April 10, 1995, when former Mayor Frank M. Jordan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for its formation with the former Chairman (Mayor) of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The agreement became the foundation of the Sister City relationship and was agreed upon three months prior to the normalization of relations between the U. S and Vietnam with the intent of improving the quality of life of the people of Vietnam and U.S./Vietnam relations.
For more than 25 years, numerous delegations have traveled between the two countries, and even more, have traveled between the two cities. These delegations have been focused on the exchange of programs and ideas related to education, biotech, transportation, urban planning, environment, healthcare, law, art, and culture as well as on trade and commerce. In addition to Mayor Frank Jordan, former Mayors Willie L. Brown, Jr. and Edwin M. Lee have led delegations to Vietnam.
The Committee has won awards for its work from the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, Sister Cities International, and the Northern California Board of Sister Cities. They have also been recognized by the governments of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City.
The Committee invites all people of goodwill to attend its educational, cultural, business, and other events, as well as to travel with them to Vietnam.
